You might never have heard of the sport of snow-kiting, but you’ve certainly heard of Santa’s helpers. And reindeer across Norway freaking hate the new snow sport.
Snow-kiting is pretty much what it sounds like: A skier is attached to a kite and propelled by the wind across a snowy surface.
Norwegian reindeer, a study found, are also propelled, but they aren’t having fun. The animals flee snow-kiters more often and flee farther than when they encounter skiers. They also sometimes stop eating.
