It
would take a long Friday and a few beers in our bellies before anyone
here would even think of dancing; and even then, we’re fairly certain
our “dancing” wouldn’t be an especially pretty sight. That’s why we have
to give props to live dance groups and the arresting beauty they create
through movement. Our winner, Boulder Ballet, has been lauded
for the stunning live shows that always deliver on theatrics and
impressive choreography. Past productions include Carmen, Cinderella and their annual Nutcracker holiday
show. Our runner-up, Frequent Flyers Productions, Inc., takes live
dance to new heights with amazing aerial-dance performances.

Movie
theaters might be losing their appeal as more and more people invest in
home theater systems, but there’s something indescribably fun about
enjoying a flick with a host of your fellow humans. The communal
experience of watching a movie gets amplified at the Boulder Theater, with
its bar and enthusiastic crowds. The art deco décor provides a
beautiful backdrop for whatever movie you see, whether it’s part of one
of the film festivals the theater hosts or simply an independent flick
touring the country. Catch the blockbusters at runner-up Century
Theatre, and fulfill your art house desires at Boedecker Theater.
Performance Arts Venue
DAIRY CENTER FOR THE ARTS
2590 Walnut St., 303-440-7826
Second Place: Boulder Theater
Third Place: Chautauqua Auditorium
Fourth Place: Macky Auditorium
Fifth Place: Boulder’s Dinner Theater
The line-up at the Dairy Center for the Arts is
like a box of chocolates — yes, you know how it goes. The Dairy Center
opens its doors to such a wide variety of local theater and dance
companies that you just never know what you’re going to get — but, as
with chocolate, it’s going to be a treat.
By
building relationships with resident organizations that emphasize arts
education, the Dairy Center has also made itself an incubator for new,
young performers studying with lauded local arts organizations like
Boulder Ballet, CenterStage Theatre Company and Imagination Makers
Theater Company. The stage is also opened for eclectic and adventurous
endeavors like an original steampunk opera and a performance that
matches an African marimba ensemble and singers with an aerial dance
company.
