Now is the time, writes John Nichols for The Nation, for President Barack Obama to govern.
He was given a mandate in the 2012 election, and it’s important for him to assert it and more directly demand that legislators do things his way.
Obama must “seize that opportunity as an essential part of making the case for bold
executive orders and a bold legislative agenda that will bring not just
the hope but the change he promised” in 2008, Nichols writes.
Democrats won the presidency, made gains in both houses, and earned more votes in both the Senate and the House of Representatives than the Republicans did.
