Come join us for 10 weeks of Dawson’s exciting new summer camps and Programs for kids ages 5-18. From June 7 through Aug. 20, we will offer 40 various camps in academics, arts, music and drama, language and culture, sports, and various specialty day camps, running from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., with extended before- and after-camp care, on a huge 113-acre campus, with a pool, two gymnasiums, sports fields, art, photography and performing arts center. Kids receive a full lunch in our dining hall every day and take a break to cool off in the pool.

For ages 3-12 years. A rural, 38-acre school site offers part- and full-day activities Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. They offer daily rhythm for younger children of outside/inside games, crafts, water play, baking, storytelling, nature walks, picnics and song. Week-long theme camps for older children include woodworking, wild crafting, backyard naturalism and beekeeping. The camp is centrally located minutes from both Longmont and Boulder, east of Diagonal Highway. Camp Morning Glory is for children ages 3-7 and Camp Cotton Wood is for children ages 8-12. Camp Morning Glory offers two- and three-week sessions throughout the summer. Camp Cotton Wood offers week-long themed camps including Native American studies, puppet making, animal tracking, compass skills, needlework, embroidery, writing classes and more. Each week provides campers with a progressive learning experience that emphasizes the creative process. Campers receive instruction in specific art media, time to plan and create and opportunities for discussion of the art with other campers and staff. Drawing, painting, drama, music, dance, murals, recycled art and mosaics are just some of the subjects that campers will explore. jumping with special guest artists dropping by for storytelling and

Our Place in Space
Grades 3-6. June 14-18, 9 a.m.
– 3:30 p.m. Explore earth’s planetary neighborhood through art. Using
art, mixed-media artist Aiello mixes creativity with science to teach
kids about their place in space. The camp will combine scientific
investigation about the galaxies with various cultural traditions, using
a variety of 2D and 3D art projects in pastel, sculpture, acrylic
painting and storytelling. $200.

Jewish and American Indian ArtVentures: Connecting
Across Cultures
Grades 3-6. June 21-25, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Discover
what Jews and American Indians share as spiritual and ancient peoples.
Through the lens of art, find out how traditions of Jewish and American
Indian cultures are similar and different. Campers will explore Jewish
and American- Indian art at the Mizel Museum and Denver Art Museum, and
create their own artventures using clay, pastels, paint, tin and
leather. $200.

The
Adventures of Rabbi Harvey: Creative Dramatics for the Wacky and Wise
Grades
4-6. June 28-July 2, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Coached by award-winning master
drama educator Jane Page, kids will learn scriptwriting,
improvisational techniques and elements of set-design for a live
performance based on the quirky Rabbi Harvey of Elk Spring. Creative
dramatics explore universal values using Jewish and American folklore in
the backdrop of the Western frontier of the 1870s. Campers will also
“meet” the author of Rabbi Harvey via web-conferencing. $200

Art Trek to Israel
Grades
1-3. July 12-16, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Painter and art teacher Ivy Delon
takes a trip to Israel through the visual arts to explore the artists,
architecture, nature and animals of Israel. Campers will discover visual
symbols of peace in Middle-Eastern art and create a “peace mural” to be
displayed at Open House, a community-based center for Jews, Christians
and Muslims in Israel. Campers will learn composition, design and
drawing with a focus on imagination. $200

Down-to-Earth Clay Creation
Grades 1-3.
July 26-30, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. What does clay have to do with the
creation stories of Jews and other peoples? Artist Lia Lynn Rosen will
share stories about clay digging and outdoor firing in Mexico and New
Mexico. Campers will get down (and dirty) working with clay to create
animals, seas, plants and humans that will represent their personal
universes. Spanish and Hebrew words will be integrated, while teaching
children how to prepare clay and how to use various techniques like
coiling, pinch-pots and texture. $200

Me and My Shadow: The World of Shadow Puppets

Grades 3-6. Aug. 2-6, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Awardwinning performer,
playwright and puppeteer Betsy Tobin will guide children on a trip
through the magic of shadow puppets. Campers will design, create and
decorate their own shadow puppet stages, writing stories inspired by
their imaginations. Each child will share their individual stories in a
performance for families and friends, and at the end of the journey
through light and shadow, each child will share their “Me and My Shadow”
story on a take-home stage. $200

The Musical Tent
Grades 1-3. Aug. 9-13, 9 a.m. –
3:30 p.m. Acclaimed composer, teacher and recording artist Sheldon Sands
journeys on an adventure into the creative and fun world of
music-making. Children will make drums, flutes and string instruments
from simple materials and will learn to play and sing traditional
ensemble songs from the Middle East, Africa and South America. Camp ends
with a community performance of original work written and performed by

experiences as they learn about several different groups of immigrants
and their unique experiences in the Westward Expansion. The customs,
traditions and crafts of African American, Hispanic, Jewish, and Chinese
pioneers will bring history to life for children. Kids will experience a
simpler way of life as they learn and play as Colorado pioneer children
did in the late 1800s.

Camp Mentsch: After-Camp Session at the Mizel Museum

Colorado adventure camp programs have non-stop activities. Campers
choose morning and afternoon activities, including horseback riding,
whitewater rafting, kayaking, mountain biking, rappelling, trap
shooting, fishing, archery, climbing wall, ropes course and hiking. The
summer camp experience kicks into high gear. Each camper goes on a
number of overnight and all-day trips. The first trip each session is a
three-day cabin camp-out. This trip is not co-ed. Another trip is a
four- or five-day extended trip. Each camper makes an individual choice
according to his or her interests. The extended trip choices include
caving, mountain climbing, horseback riding and whitewater rafting. This
summer the wrangling staff at Anderson Camps is offering a
horseemphasis program for campers. Those campers enrolled in the program
will spend one portion of their day working with the wranglers and
horses, not just riding but acquiring horse-care skills and horse-safety

Campers get their own horse for a week and learn responsibilities
to care for it. Campers are focused on horses and ride twice each day.
English or Western riding style is camper’s choice. A horse show is held
each Friday to show off new skills. Bonding with a horse is important
in learning to ride. Sun Pony Ranch teaches about horse behavior and
personality to encourage this bonding and to promote safety. Activities
include daily riding lessons, including bareback riding sessions;
feeding; grooming; tacking; and general care of your horse. Shampoo day
teaches how to bathe the horse, while horse show day is a noncompetitive
show for family and friends. Students are also taught to braid and
decorate their horses for the show. Sun Pony Ranch Horse Camp is co-ed

A traditional overnight camp for kids ages 7-17. Campers live in cabins with two counselors and six to nine other children of their own gender and age. Each cabin is under the direct leadership of a college-aged counselor. Counselors receive extensive training at camp prior to the campers’ arrival.  Staff-to-camper ratio is one-to-five or lower. For nearly a century, Camp Chief Ouray (CCO) has been the adventurous playground for boys and girls from around the world. Climbing For Life is a nonprofit organization devoted to healthy youth development in at-risk populations from the Denver metro area. Programs, including their long-term mentoring program, provide young people with challenging personal experiences through outdoor education.

Since 1947, the Walker Family has provided quality summer camping experiences for boys and girls. Today’s Day Camp highlights both mountain adventure programs for Boulder youth ages 7-13 and specialty focus camps for ages 11-16. The Colorado Mountain Ranch offers confidence-building activities supervised and instructed with a positive approach aimed toward successful skill-building, passionate learning and fun. Activities include Western riding, horse and animal care, mountainboarding, swimming, gymnastics and trampoline, arts and crafts, archery, Native American lore, dramatics, music, dance, Frisbee golf, nature and environmental appreciation, outdoor living skills, hiking, camping, tracking, green experiences in sustainable living, sports and games, teen leadership and problem-solving team challenges. Optional weekly overnights and campouts round out each week. Bus transportation provided to and from Boulder.

• Mountain Summer Camp
For kids ages 11-16. CYP changes boys’ and girls’ lives and empowers them to make a difference in the world. Campers study wildlife, forests and weather. They breathe the fresh air and revel in the beauty of their natural surroundings. Furthermore, through CYP’s unique Environmental Hero Projects, campers are taught the value of conserving our natural resources and making the world a better place. Of course, CYP campers have fun, too, as CYP leads them in exciting outdoor activities from whitewater rafting and playing in alpine snowfields to preparing their own meals and sleeping under the stars. Campers enjoy a very personalized camp setting consisting of just 12 kids and four counselors per campsite, so each camper plays an active role in helping the camp run smoothly on a daily basis. CYP operates two campsites simultaneously, situated about a half mile apart. This intimate setting ensures that each camper’s needs are addressed and that everyone is a highly involved part of a tight-knit community. Sessions begin June 13.
