The popular Musical Theatre Teen Intensive camp is back for kids ages 14-18. In this year’s five-week session, teens will learn all the elements of creating Mamma Mia!. Auditions will be used to determine casting and all students, beginner and experienced alike, will be given equal opportunities for participation in the musical. Students entering grades six through 12 are invited to participate in Drama Camp, an intensive training in the dramatic arts, with an emphasis on singing, dancing and acting. Students will learn the basics of producing their performance from beginning to end, including lighting, sound, set design and stage management. BDT Academy’s Summer Drama Camp session is in July and runs for three weeks.
BDT Academy also has summer drama camps for children ages 5-12 — City Drama Camps — in cooperation with the City of Boulder Parks and Recreation Department. We offer week-long drama camps over the course of the whole summer, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. The camps are held at Salberg Park at the corner of 19th Street and Elder Avenue. Each week is different and uses the technique of “playmaking,” which lets the children use their imagination to adapt a familiar story or write their own script! Each day consists of script writing or review, drama instruction, set and costume making, rehearsal and outdoor playtime. There is a lovely playground/park at the drama camp site that we use for lunch and for breaks. Some playmaking themes include Fairy Tale Fun, Pretty Princess, Fancy Nancy, Christmas in July, Dr. Seuss and many more!

Every camper will develop self-confidence through singing, dancing, acting and artwork. Using our weekly theme, we will have fun wearing costumes, painting sets and props, and creating scenes with our favorite characters. Camp Oonie Koonie Cha is an action-packed music camp for children ages 4-9.
Be transported back in time to the days of the dinosaurs and our Pleistocene pals, the cave dwellers and woolly mammoths. Campers will be going on a “dig,” play-acting paleontology and making their own instruments and “rumbasha” poles. Music weaves it all together with movement, chants and rock ‘n’ roll. “Dig It” will come alive with Amy Haywood, Kelye Lotz, Susie Adams, Ariana Snow and Garette Suzelis. Camp OKC is an early childhood week-long music camp that blends a variety of musical experiences with instrument construction, science experiments, dramatic play, a xylophone orchestra and a final performance into one amazing week. The Colorado Shakespeare Festival invites kids ages 9-18 to CU-Boulder’s campus to study Shakespeare with CSF professionals. Working in small groups, these students learn about Shakespeare by rehearsing, staging and performing a shortened play on the Outdoor Mary Rippon Stage. Camp Shakespeare is a fabulous way for kids and teens to build confidence, language skills, make friends and get to know Shakespeare in a creative and supportive environment. Campers also work with a stage combat professional to learn the safe way to fight onstage.
Each session of Camp Shakespeare will culminate in free public performances on the Mary Rippon Outdoor Theatre stage. In addition to acting training, students participate in master classes with special guests from the CSF company. Tuition includes one ticket to attend a CSF performance of Twelfth Night on Sunday, July 21 at 7 p.m.
Camp Shakes Session 1 will run Monday-Friday mornings, May 28-June 24. The final performance with be 6 p.m. Monday, June 24. Camp Shakes Session 2 will run Monday-Friday afternoons, July 22-Aug. 9. Help stimulate your child’s creativity and play experience in this week-long, costume-centric summer camp facilitated by Pop Culture Classroom! Your child will have the opportunity to conceptualize and create a costume with assistance and guidance from Pop Culture Classroom’s teachers. We’ll start by analyzing professional cosplay, and then we will come up with ideas of our own. Students will create sketches, plan materials, and finish the week with completed costume pieces, all with help from the professionals. African Music + Dance Camp is a cross-cultural program that gives children an in-depth opportunity to explore a wide range of music, dance and art from southern Africa in a day camp setting. No prior musical experience necessary. Activities include drumming and dance, songs and games, Zimbabwean marimba and mbira. With two half-day sessions, camps run June 24-28 and July 29-Aug. 2, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. This camp is held in collaboration with Colorado Music Festival & Center for Musical Arts at their facility in Lafayette. Kutandara’s marimba busking full-day camp allows children to work in small groups to create cool marimba arrangements and then earn their very own money performing on Pearl Street Mall in Boulder. With two sessions running June 10-14 and June 17-21, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Staff and campers meet at Ozo Coffee Company on Arapahoe Avenue, and then travel by bus to local city parks in the mornings and spend most afternoons on Pearl Street Mall. Kids learn performance, audience interaction, money management and decision-making skills.

Heal the Earth through song and service! Our theme is how organic farming is healthy for the Earth and our bodies. Along this theme, the kids will rehearse songs with fun choreography, act out funny skits and play games. They’ll see organic farming in practice by touring Cure Organic Farm and interacting with the fun critters there! On another day, they’ll do service work on the farm, preparing beds, planting, weeding and harvesting, and celebrating our work with a huge water party. With the harvested produce, the campers will prepare kid-friendly dishes. The camp concludes with a meal cooked by the campers for parents, followed by a performance of skits and songs. This camp is a unique combination of arts and environmental education, and is perfect if your child loves to sing and wants to take action to save the Earth.

Rocky Ridge’s jazz program offers one week of immersion in the performance, theory and history of jazz. We welcome students of all levels. Through individual instruction from our expert faculty, students explore improvisation within the jazz idiom and examine the solos of jazz legends. Performances in combos and small ensembles improve listening skills, teamwork and musicality; performances in large ensembles tackle big-band tunes by greats such as Count Basie and Thad Jones. Students also have the option to study the theoretical side of jazz through big-band arranging and composition classes.
