Canoe save me?
At 5:10 p.m. on June 10, the Boulder County Sheriff’s
Office, Rocky Mountain Fire Rescue and Boulder Emergency Squad responded to
Marshall Lake at the 6600 block of Marshall Road on report of a capsized canoe.
A man had been fishing in his canoe when it capsized and
police found him holding onto the canoe 500 yards off shore and waving for
help. Rocky Mountain Fire performed a water rescue to pull the man from the
water.
After being checked out by paramedics, the man was found to
have no injuries.
Near rollover
At 8:09 p.m. on June 5, the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group,
Lefthand Fire and the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office were called to 4000
Lefthand Canyon on a report of a vehicle that was about to roll backwards down
a steep hillside.
The person driving was on a four-wheel drive trail incline
when she determined that she could not continue up the hill. Her friend got
into the passenger seat and slowly began to back down the hill. The soft soil
beneath the car gave way and the vehicle almost rolled down the hill.
The woman was evacuated from the car by Rocky Mountain Fire
Rescue. No injuries were reported.
Shed destroyed in
explosion
Emergency crews responded to a call they received at 2:28 p.m. on June 5 about
an explosion and burning wooden shed at 6893 Niwot Rd.
The homeowner, who is a blacksmith and farrier, had gone
into the house to take a break from working in the shed, the report said.
Twenty minutes later, the owner heard the explosion and saw that his shed was
in flames.
The shed, which was destroyed, was located approximately 75
yards north of the house. It was 20 feet by 25 feet in size and held several
blacksmithing tools and equipment that were also destroyed in the explosion.
The response team included the Mountain View Fire
Department, the Boulder Rural Fire Department, the Hygiene Volunteer Fire
Department and the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office. Officials said the cause of
the fire did not appear suspicious.
Mailbox bomb
On May 26, Boulder County sheriff’s deputies responded to a
report of a homemade explosive device found in the 1900 block of Eldorado
Circle in Superior.
The device had exploded and damaged the mailbox in which it
had been placed. The device consisted of a liter-sized, ruptured plastic
bottle, with the lid intact, containing a liquid chemical and aluminum foil.
Police cautioned residents against picking up suspicious
containers found in streets, lawns or mailboxes. Those with information about
