HOLIDAY AND SPRINGTIME MEALS

To many, Easter means a lot more than just celebrating the holiday — it’s a time to gather with friends and family and welcome in springtime. With the Farmers’ Markets opening in Longmont and Boulder on Saturday, flowers blooming out of nowhere and multiple meal options throughout the county, here’s a few ways to spend this weekend.

The Hotel Boulderado in downtown Boulder is hosting an Easter Brunch Buffet on Sunday, April 5 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The menu includes a variety of festive dishes such as chef-carved leg of lamb, maple-glazed bone-in ham, panroasted ono, grilled portabella mushrooms and much more. The buffet includes six dessert options like crème brulee, pie and chocolate lava cake. The meal cost $55 for adults and $30 for children aged 4 to 10. Call 303-440- 2880 for reservations.

The Dickens Tavern in Longmont is also hosting an Easter Brunch Buffet from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets are only $25 for adults, $20 for seniors and $1 per year of age for kids under 12. The buffet consists of shrimp in a carved ice sculpture (really the only way to truly enjoy shrimp), baked salmon, eggs Benedict, carved ham, frittata and much more. And The Greenbriar Inn, just north of Boulder, will be hosting a champagne buffet brunch for $39 per person on Easter Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The buffet includes a smattering of main courses, side dishes and unlimited champagne or sparkling cider. Call 303-440-7979 for reservations.

If you’re interested in checking out a Seder plate for Passover, the Jewish Community Center in Boulder is hosting a DIY Passover dinner on Tuesday, April 7. Come at 5:30 p.m. to cook up food, or stop by at 7 p.m. when the meal starts. Fresh matzah ball soup, horseradish and charoset will be made and served that night and festivities continue into the night. Call the com munity center at 303-998-1900 for more information.

DRINK BEER AND SAVE THE PLANET

KGNU and Boulder Weekly are presenting “Microbreweries for the Environment” on Saturday, April 4 from 7-11 p.m. at the Boulder Theater.

The event raises money for local environmental nonprofit organizations. Colorado microbreweries will be on hand to serve beers for $2 a pint, and participants can also buy a $12 commemorative glass to use for tastings. Entry is $25, though a $50 VIP ticket will get you in a private tasting at George’s Restaurant next to the theater. Participating breweries include West Flanders, Upslope, Avery, Sanitas, Twisted Pine, Left Hand, Ska Brewing, Boulder Beer, Odell, Oskar Blues, Shine, FATE and Pug Ryan’s. Since 1993, the Microbreweries for the Environment benefit has raised nearly $160,000 for local environmental causes. The proceeds from this year’s benefit will further the environmental initiatives of five local non-profit organizations: Colorado Prairie Initiative, River Restoration Adventures for Tomorrow, Americas for Conservation The Arts, Tiyospaye Winyan Maka and the CU Environmental Center.
