ALL THE CULTURE YOU NEED, IN ONE SPOT
On Friday, April 6, the Dairy Center for the Arts will host an evening of art, movies, music and food. “mmmmmBoulder” will feature “everything local,” including short films by Boulder County filmmakers and live music from Boulder’s own Rebecca Folsom, Ash Ganley and Lisa Bell.
Art from Pamela Olson, Kelly Shanafelt, Linda Parks and Carlentini Jewelry will be featured in the lobby, as will an array of Boulder’s natural products. Local food by Top of the Hill Grill West and Shamane’s Bake Shoppe will be for sale.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for food and art, and the show begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 at the Dairy box office.
TWISTED PINE GOES MEDIEVAL
Twisted Pine Brewing Company will debut the West Bound Braggot, the fourth beer in its Artisan Ale Project, on Saturday, April 7.
The West Bound Braggot is Twisted Pine’s “take on a medieval classic,” says the brewery. Braggot was traditionally a mix of mead and ale popular in Europe throughout the Middle Ages. Twisted Pine’s attempt to revive the drink includes malted barley, orange blossom honey, Citra hops, Tasmanian pepper berries and “Buddha’s hand,” and is fermented with Belgian saison yeast.
Like the rest of the Artisan Ales, the West Bound Braggot’s label features a painting by a local artist. Lael Har’s artwork will be displayed in the Twisted Pine ale house until May 5.
AVERY HITS THE HISTORY BOOKS
Avery Brewing Company will also release a new brew on April 7. The second in Avery’s Annual Barrel Series, Uncle Jacob’s Stout was aged for six months in Bourbon barrels and boasts a 17.4 percent alcohol by volume (ABV).
The name of the stout refers to Adam Avery’s sixth Great Grand Uncle Jacob. According to the company, while doing a genealogy project, Avery discovered that this grand uncle had established a distillery in Bourbon County, Ky., in 1790, and was the first distiller to call his whiskey “bourbon.” The brew has flavors of toffee, caramel, vanilla, hints of coconut and dried currants and cherries, Avery says.
Sales of Uncle Jacob’s Stout will begin at 5 p.m. on Saturday in the Avery Tap Room, and each 12-ounce bottle will cost $10.
