It’s official: nothing is sacred.
The BBC is reporting that Swedish publisher Norstedts has announced that a 4th book in the mega-popular Girl That Did Something or Other (got a Dragon Tattoo, Kicked a Hornet’s Nest, Played with Fire, etc…) by Stieg Larsson will be published in August, 2015.
Only problem, Larsson died without finishing the 4th book in 2004.
The publishing world apparently having learned nothing from And Another Thing, the 6th book in the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy Series that was written Eoin Colfer because the series author Douglas Adams had died, the sequel will be written by a hired gun, David Lagercrantz, who is best known for co-authoring a book about Swedish soccer star Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
And since Larsson’s partner Eva Gabrielsson says that neither the publishing house nor Lagercrantz has access to the unfinished manuscript, the book will be written from scratch.
What could go wrong there?
Gabrielsson also told Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet — look it up, that’s it’s real name — that she finds the idea of milking the franchise for more money “distasteful.”
That’s certainly one word for it.
In case Lagercrantz is looking for some guidance, we here at Boulder Weekly have a title suggestion: The Girl that Published a Terrible Sequel.
