Stephanie McHugh began pursuing stand up comedy in her 30s, married with two small children. Nine months after her first time on stage, McHigh won a trip to the Las Vegas Comedy Festival and has been on the Denver comedy scene for over 17 years. She appeared on Nick at Nite’s TV Show America’s Funniest Mom. McHigh is a co-founder of the MentalPause Comedy Show and The Twilight Moan Podcast: Laughter, Love and Sex After 50.

The Rocky Mountains are clearly visible in the distance as the sky comes alive with all the colors of the rainbow. This is the beginning of the annual Erie Town Fair and Balloon Festival. Come in person from 6-8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday and watch the balloons inflate and take flight, weather permitting. The balloons launch from the east side of Collier’s Hill, west of Erie High School on County Road 5 and Colliers Parkway. Parking is available in the Erie High School Lot. After the balloon launch, visit the Town Fair on May 21 only, with 200 vendors and food booths from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and live music and a beer garden from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Free parking at the Erie Town Hall, 645 Holbrook St., and at Calvary Bible Church, 615 Evans St.

Head to Unitarian Universalist Church for the annual free organic plant exchange. If you don’t have any plants to give, come take some anyway. Or bring a can of food for donation at a local food bank. Pesticides are difficult to avoid in our world—and pesticides kill pollinators and undermine human health. If you have extra plants in your yard that have not been treated with pesticides, dig them up, put them in a pot, and bring them to our plant exchange. You might see something you like from someone else’s garden. If so, it’s yours—for free!

In a fierce oscillation between activism and love, Andrea Gibson’s newest literary collection, Lord of the Butterflies, is a masterful showcase from the renowned poet whose writing and performances have captured the hearts of millions. An artful and nuanced look at gender, romance, loss and family, this is also a book of protest. While rioting against gun violence, homophobia and white supremacy, Gibson celebrates gender expansion, queer love and the will to stay alive. A cellist since the age of eight, Zoe Keating pursued electronic music and contemporary composition as part of her Liberal Arts studies at Sarah Lawrence College in New York. After graduation she moved to San Francisco and built a career as an information architect and data analyst while moonlighting as a cellist in rock bands. Keating eventually combined her love of music and technology, using a computer to live-layer her cello and performing for late-night after-parties in her San Francisco warehouse.
