Sports have an uplifting nature that can unify communities after times of great loss; case in point Rising from the Ashes. The documentary tells the inspirational story of the first Rwandan National Cycling Team and their journey to the London Olympic Games. Back in 2005, cycling legend Jock Boyer moved to Rwanda to bring the sport to this community. In the country nicknamed “The Land of a Thousand Hills,” the team learns what it means to be professional athletes. With the backdrop of genocide, the film shows the true triumph of the human spirit.
