Gallery: Sharon Jones, Grace Potter rule Ogden Theatre

Tuesday night at the Ogden Theatre in Denver was a night for iron-lunged female singers armed with voices so powerful they should be regulated by the Department of Defense.

Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings filled the venue with the funky throwback dance-jams that are the group’s specialty. Jones’ backup band started out the set with a piece to get the crowd moving. The grooves were so tight the hipster crowd forgave the guitarist when he called them “cowboys.” Jones danced and sang around the stage adorned in a frilly multi-hued dress and periodically brought male audience members up to the stage for songs. Her energetic, sweaty performance kept the crowd entertained all night.

Opening band Grace Potter and the Nocturnals roared and screeched through their set, even inviting Sharon Jones up for a duet on one song. Potter has some serious power behind her voice, and hearing her and Jones sing over each other was pretty impressive. Enjoy the pics from the concert, below.
