In years past, the beginning of conference play for Colorado
represented a major upgrade in competition.
On Saturday afternoon, it was difficult to tell who the
better team was – Pac-12’s Utah, or Division II New Orleans.
The Utes shot an abysmal 23 percent from the floor,
contributing to Colorado’s 73-33 victory.
“I thought that was a great way to start Pac-12 play,” said
head coach Tad Boyle. “We know Utah is struggling a little bit right now, and
they had some open looks that they missed, so we dodged a little bit of a
bullet there.”
Freshman Spencer Dinwiddie set the tone from the beginning
of the game for the Buffs, hitting the game’s first basket five seconds into
action, giving him three of his career-high 19 points on the evening
“A forty point win is a great way to win over a Pac-12
team,” said Dinwiddie. “It’s no secret that Colorado as an athletic program has
struggled a little bit in the Pac-12 – besides our Cross Country team. It’s
good to open up (the conference season) and get a little momentum.”
The competition gets tougher for the Buffs, as they host a
talented Washington team at home on Thursday evening.
