The 50-mile race in Prescott, Arizona, offers historic sum for winners

Named for Prescott, Arizona’s infamous Whiskey Row—a collection of
rowdy bars, boutique shops and libraries lining the town square—The
Whiskey Off-Road is one of the most popular races in the West. Now it
wants to become a national event and hopes to attract North America’s
top racers.

To lure both pro and amateur riders, the Whiskey this year will offer
a $30,000 prize purse, one of the richest in the sport. And the money
will be split evenly among the top 10 male and female finishers, a
rarity in mountain biking.

“After a successful first year hosting a pro category, we are excited
to raise the bar once again,” said Todd Sadow, President of Epic Rides,
which organizes the event. “Last year was a $20,000 purse. Now we are
up to $30,000. This is among the biggest single-day pro cash purses in
mountain biking worldwide,” he added.
