It was a muddy end to the 2012 ultramarathoning season for former CU runners Cameron Clayton and Sage Canaday, two young runners who faced each other for the first time in the North Face Endurance Challenge Championship in San Francisco Dec. 1.
And it was a disappointing end for Canaday, who did not finish the race, and a heartbreaking one for Clayton, who finished in third place, 14 minutes behind the winner, Miguel Heras of Spain.
Both runners are accustomed to winning in their brief careers, as Boulder Weekly reported in our race preview.
