In our previous coverage, including our follow-up and a commentary, Boulder Weekly has followed the ballot saga in Boulder County, where the county clerk says ballots will be printed and distributed with bar codes and numbers. Activists fear that identifying bar codes could possibly be used to trace a ballot back to a particular voter.
But there are more players in this game: the county canvass board, the board that oversees voting in the county and certifies the election. Some canvass board members met earlier this week.
The canvass board is holding a second public meeting 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1 in the Creek Room of the Boulder Public Library. The preliminary agenda, from a canvass board press release, is below:
Preliminary Agenda
1. Discussion of draft procedural guidelines for the convened board (continuing)
2. Discussion of filing an official request that Boulder County provide, without charge or delay,
· all CORA-type information requests originated by the CB appointees for education on process, statutes, and rules regarding the agenda for the Canvass process
· a publicly viewable web page on its Election website on which all CB-related notices, documents, minutes, and emails can be posted
3. Discussion of an effort to observe the new mail-ballot assembly methods with emphasis on understanding the new processes
4. Discussion of voting rights that Canvass Board and Watchers would be willing to fight for
5. Assignment of legal counsel remunerated by county
