Six households
in Boulder’s affordable housing program and three local nonprofit organizations
— Thorne Ecological Institute, Flatirons Habitat for Humanity, and Boulder
Housing Coalition — received 2009 City of Boulder ClimateSmart Solar Grant
Funds.
Grant distributions for 2009 totaled
$74,680.
The
ClimateSmart Solar Grant Fund is dedicated for the purpose of providing
financial assistance through grants toward installation of solar photovoltaic
(PV) or solar thermal (hot water) systems on housing for low- to
moderate-income persons in Boulder and on facilities that house nonprofit
organizations operating in Boulder. Solar
installations support social, environmental and economic goals by reducing
energy bill costs, energy use and greenhouse gas emissions in the City of
Boulder.
Ten applications
were received in 2009 for a total of $232,908 in requested funds. A
total of $74,680 was awarded.
The 2009 award
funds will result in 38 kW (kilowatts) of
installed solar photovoltaic (electricity), reducing Boulder’s carbon dioxide
emissions by 46 metric tons per year.
ClimateSmart
Solar Grant Fund monies come from sales taxes paid to the City of Boulder for
private sector commercial and residential solar installations. In 2010, there
will be two grant cycles, March 15 and Aug. 15. Visit
