Gov’t Mule guitarist Warren Haynes is in a world by himself, and he proved
it Saturday night at Red Rocks with a flurry of blues-powered solos that
left the packed crowd with dropped jaws.
During the second set, Mule brought out Soulive and Lettuce guitarist Eric Krasno to sit in on “Sco-Mule.” It was a surprising and unexpected addition to the lineup (for me at least), and when it came time to jam, Krasno wasted no time ripping out the high-octane, blazing-fast riffs. Haynes joined in and sounded a little surprised by the intensity off the bat, and he seemed like he wanted to spend a couple bars warming up before he unleashed the musical flames he’s known for. The jam culminated in an incredible back-and-forth between Krasno, Haynes, and keyboardist Danny Lewis, with the three trading bar after bar in an orgy of musical ideas.
