OAK AT FOURTEENTH TURNS FIVE
One of Boulder’s best fine dining choices, OAK at fourteenth, will celebrate its fifth year anniversary on Monday, Dec. 14.
Executive Chef Steven Redzikowski and Beverage Director Bryan Dayton will be on hand to celebrate the occasion and to share some celebratory food items with patrons. As a thank you to Boulder’s patronage, OAK will be serving complimentary fried pickles and a house-made cocktail. Dayton will also be dishing out beverage specials throughout the week.

AVERY AND BOULDER LAND AT TOP OF LIST
Livability.com, a site that collects data and analyzes quality of life for the country’s small- and mid-sized cities, dropped their inaugural list of the best beers in the best cities. By combining their quality of life data with data from RateBeer.com, they compiled a list that ranked the best 99 beers in 99 cities.
Lo and behold, Boulder and Avery Brewing came in sixth place on the list. On both, Livability.com wrote:
“[Boulder] ranks high when it comes to outdoor activities, restaurants and beer. Loaded with hiking and biking trails, rock climbing destinations, parks and farm-totable restaurants, Boulder offers one of the nation’s largest collections of craft breweries. One of the anchors of the city’s craft beer culture, Avery Brewing, recently opened an expanded brewing facility, taproom and restaurant that will dramatically increase capacity. Hopefully that means that the Maharaja, an imperial India pale ale with a dark amber hue and hoppy flavor, might be available in slightly-less-limited batches.”
Way to go, Avery. And even more, way to go Boulder County for being home to a cadre of craft breweries that puts us on internet lists.
BACON FOR SANTA
Last week, in a shocking Tidbites report, we brought you a story on underwear that smells like bacon. Instantly, bacon-related news tips came flooding into the Tidbites office, located in a 20-story invisible high rise on Pearl Street.
The best of those tips let us know that the Food Bank of the Rockies kicked off a “Bacon for Santa” campaign in Denver this week with the help of former Denver Bronco and current talking head Mark Schlereth.
The campaign seeks to donate 12.5 tons of bacon from Farmland Fands to the Food Bank of the Rockies, but they need your help. From now until Christmas, whenever a Coloradan pledges to leave bacon instead of cookies for Santa this year (done by tweeting #BaconForSanta, as that’s how Santa prefers to be contacted), Farmland will add another 1-pound donation to the tally.
That’s going to be a lot of bacon for old Saint Nick. Let’s hope he doesn’t keel over and die.
HEALTHY DELIVERY SERVICE TURNS TO KICKSTARTER
Boulder’s Up Beet Kitchen launched a Kickstarter campaign this week as it seeks to raise funds to grow its healthy ingredient delivery service. Just a few days into the campaign, Up Beet has raised about $8,000 of its $20,000 goal.
Deemed the “Uber of healthy eating” by people who can’t think of anything besides phone apps anymore, Up Beet delivers ingredients but then supplements those deliveries with practical recipes and instructions on how to prepare healthy meals.
“It is amazing to see how our vision has grown from an aspiration for a healthier world to a tangible project that our Kickstarter backers are bringing to life. Healthy cooking will no longer be reserved solely to those that went to a culinary institute or have the money to pay for highpriced already made meals,” said Co-founder Nic DeMuth in a press release.
