North Korea vows to nullify armistice if US starts war exercises

North Korea has vowed to cancel the armistice that has held off war with South Korea, if South Korea and the U.S. go ahead with planned war games on the Korean peninsula.

The defensive war exercises, which started March 1 and will continue until the end of April, are the latest in a recent series of issues between South and North Korea, which include nuclear tests by North Korea that are seen by the South and many others as aggressive and threatening.

China and the U.S. struck a tentative deal at the U.N. to begin new sanctions for North Korea after the nuclear tests.
