Facebook’s new search function, called Graph Search, was announced
recently to less-than-high praise. Some said it seems like an unwise use
of the company’s resources when mobile browsing is the direction
Facebook should be going. Others said it was just another way to stalk
people on Facebook.
In fact, it’s a long-overdue cashing-in for Facebook, and a direct stab at Google’s ad methods.
Graph Search allows users to search Facebook for various keywords (place, topic, friends, etc.) and displays photos and other posts from Facebook among the results.
From an advertising perspective, it’s a way for Facebook to know not just what you do and what you like, but what you’re planning to do in the future.
