Suspects arrested in Walmart bank theft

Longmont police have arrested two suspects in the bank robbery that occurred Friday in the Super Walmart on the north side of the city.

Frank David Gutierrez, 22, of Greeley, is expected to be charged with aggravated robbery and conspiracy to commit theft over $20,000. Lizardo Alan Monje, 22, of Greeley, is expected to be charged with aggravated robbery, conspiracy to commit theft over $20,000, as well as false reporting.

Monje was originally reported as a victim in the robbery after he was found bound with duct tape in the Academy Bank vault. Police obtained a search warrant for Monje’s home, and recovered money and evidence related to the crime, according to a press release issued by the City of Longmont.

According to original reports, Gutierrez approached Monje, who was opening the bank shortly after 9 a.m., threatened him with a knife, forced him into an office, duct-taped him and escaped with an unknown amount of cash.

Police are still seeking additional information or witnesses in this crime, and have released photos of the suspects.
