As part of a fire ban that was set in place for the areas west of the North and South Foothills highways and areas east of the Peak to Peak Highway, some city of Boulder parks are prohibiting the use of grills until further notice.
According to a City of Boulder news release, visitors to certain parks around the city will be prohibited from using park grills, but may use gas grills by permit only.
The list of parks that are prohibiting grills include:
Chautauqua Park – 9th Street and Baseline Road
Eben G. Fine Park – 3rd Street and Arapahoe Avenue
North Boulder Park – 9th Street and Dellwood Avenue
Harlow Platts Park – 1360 Gillaspie Drive
Foothills Community Park – 800 Cherry Ave.
Also due to the increased risk of fire on open space this season, Open Space and Mountain Parks (OSMP) rangers and Boulder police will be patrolling OSMP locations over the holiday weekend to ensure that visitors watching the city’s fireworks displays do not set off any fireworks.
Those viewing displays at Chautauqua Meadows, one of the most popular viewing areas, will be subject to inspection for fireworks upon arrival. Visitors may refuse, in which case rangers and police will deny entry.
“We can easily get 1,000 or so people in the Chautauqua Meadow to watch the fireworks at Folsom Field,” Eric Stone, division manager for Boulder’s OSMP department said in a city news release. “With that many folks and heightened wildfire risk, safety is our main concern.”
In addition, Flagstaff Road will be closed from 3 to 11 p.m. on Monday, July 4. After 3 p.m., all traffic will be diverted at 4th Street and Baseline Road, according to the release. Only residents west of Chautauqua will be allowed beyond the closure.
