From record highs to inches of snow

Late October is not an odd time for the first snow to reach
Boulder, but the recent sun-tanning weather makes the current conditions a
little shocking.

The early-season storm dumped anywhere from 2 to 10 inches
of snow along the northern Front Range, causing tree limbs to fall and
widespread power outages. The Boulder County Criminal Justice Center including
the Boulder Municipal Court at 6th & Canyon are closed for the rest of the
day because of the power outage. According to a release, all courts and county
business other than the Juvenile Center and emergency operations at the
location are canceled today.

The National Weather Service is reporting that the snow was
especially heavy in Boulder, Larimer and Weld counties, with reports of 6 to 10
inches in those areas.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm
Warning for most of the state, including the Denver/Boulder area. The snowfall
is expected to taper off in the afternoon as the storm moves southeast of the
area, with a daytime snow accumulation of 5 to 9 inches possible. Temperatures
are expected to drop into the teens tonight in lower elevations and single
digits in the mountains. Tomorrow,
it is expected to be sunny, with a high near 41.

The Thompson School District is closed for the day, and the
University of Colorado Boulder’s east campus had a two-hour delay due to the
power outage. Naropa University’s Arapahoe campus also is closed for the day
due to the danger of falling tree branches, according to its website. Four St.
Vrain Valley School District schools are closed due to power outages: Central
Elementary, Columbine Elementary, Hygiene Elementary and Lyons Middle/Senior
High.

On Tuesday, city of Boulder officials reminded residents of
their responsibility to keep their sidewalks paved. Failure to remove snow
within 24 hours after the end of a snowfall may result in a summons and/or an
abatement process.
