Boulder poster store PosterScene will be the site today of two meet-and-greet opportunities for those fascinated with the stars — both the real, actual stars in the sky and the real, metaphorical stars on the stage.
First, former Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart will meet fans before his concert tonight at the Fox Theatre. Hart will hold an autograph session before his Dec. 9 concert, where he’ll meet fans and discuss his intergalactic ventures in music. The 3:30 event will take place at PosterScene, across 13th Street from Hart’s venue for the concert, the Fox Theatre.
Hart’s music reaches astral heights, incorporating light waves and sound from space. Read the Boulder Weekly’s preview of his concert here.
After Hart’s appearance, PosterScene will host a photographer with 40 years of experience photographing rock ‘n’ roll legends.
Photographer Larry Hulst, known for capturing images of rock icons like Jimi Hendrix, Bruce Springsteen, Phish, Led Zeppelin and the Grateful Dead, brings his photos and stories to PosterScene from 6 to 9 p.m. tonight.
In a free event, Hulst will meet with fans and talk about the stories behind his historic photos, which include snapping Hendrix on his final U.S. tour, taking photos of the Ramones in the ’70s, and capturing Van Halen before it became Van Hagar.
Hulst’s 40-year career spans rock from the 1970s, when he captured Frank Zappa and Led Zeppelin in their prime, to current photos of rockers still going strong, most captured on tour as they come through Colorado.
According to the press release, Hulst also photographed Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Iggy Pop, among others.
Both events are free. PosterScene is located at 1138 13th St.
