Wild Alaska Salmon Tartare

Bradford Heap and the folks behind Salt recently transitioned their next-door seafood restaurant into Pepper the Noshery. The new spot features a globe-spanning menu of casual fare with a raw bar and an excellent happy hour menu. We chose the wild Alaska salmon tartare off said menu, a plate of neatly arranged salmon, avocado, tamari, sesame, scallion and cilantro, served alongside taro chips. The salmon is fresh and cut thick, and the bright scallion and cilantro wake up each bite. $8. 

Matcha Latte

OZO pays attention to the details, from sourcing their coffees, teas and add-ins, to the preparation and service of those items. Though there’s plenty to write about with their globally and responsibly sourced (and well-roasted) coffee, we appreciate the attention to detail OZO puts into a matcha latte. A barista carefully whisks and pushes through a traditional sieve matcha powder until impossibly fine. It’s then added to steamed milk, creating a thick, frothy texture and a pleasantly grassy and umami aroma and flavor. $4.20-$4.90. 

Chicken Mole Tacos

Tahona may have tequila in the name, but on Tuesday nights, tacos are the game. Tahona’s got an inventive menu of street tacos, which includes the chicken mole taco. It’s tender chicken thigh meat braised in Mexican spices and topped with pickled red onion, cilantro and queso fresco. The flavorful thigh meat and the mole create a deep raisin, chocolaty flavor, and the bright cilantro and pickled red onion balance the savory and slightly sweet elements. $4 ($2.50 on Tuesdays).

Oatnut Butterscotch Chocolate Chip Cookie

How fortunate we are to have a bake-to-order cookie place in Boulder County. Boulder Baked has a large menu of sweet and savory bites, but the cookies are the thing, in large part because of the variety on the menu. One of the house specials is the oatnut butterscotch chocolate chip. Served hot and gooey, fresh from the oven, the oats and walnuts are deeply satisfying, and the butterscotch veining throughout the cookie is irresistible. $1.50.
