STOUT MONTH MARCHES ONWARD
As previously mentioned in this column, and probably in the bombastic howls echoing down Pearl Street at closing time, “it’s Stout Month, motherfrackers!” And along with the Library of Congress-length menu of darks available on any ol’ day of the week, Mountain Sun will be doing a special release of Stoked Oak Stout on Tuesday, Feb. 11.
It’s a barrel-aged vanilla beer with smoked malts that will steal your heart and empty your wallet.
If you want to get a preview, show up Monday, Feb. 10, as all four Mountain Sun pubs are starting Preview Mondays from 5 to 8 p.m., giving a sneak peak at the special brews being put out the next day.
Mountain Sun is also hosting a swing dancing party this weekend as part of Stout Month.
Joe Smith and the Spicy Pickles Jazz Band will be busting traditional New Orleans jazz at Under the Sun on Saturday, Feb. 8. The show is free and kicks off its Sunday shoes to get footloose at 9:30 p.m.
STOUTS BEYOND THE MOUNTAIN SUN
Mountain Sun ain’t the only place dishing the dark.
Avery Brewing is holding a release party for its new brew, Uncle Jacob’s Stout.
We know what you’re thinking. That weird empty rocking chair from Lost? Why does it get a stout named after it when you, the humble BW reader, has put in long hours of heroic beer drinking in front of the television?
But turns out that’s the wrong Jacob.
According to the brew lads at Avery, it’s actually named after Jacob Spears (no relation to Britney), the first distiller to label his whiskey as bourbon. The name comes from the fact that Uncle Jacob’s is aged for six months in bourbon barrels. Yummers.
The release party is Sunday, Feb. 9, at 1 p.m.
Also going down at Avery this week is All You Need is a Beer, a paired beer and chocolate tasteapalooza that will include no shortage of yakking about the history, culture and “health benefits” of choco-booze combos.
All You Need is Beer goes down Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $26 and are available in the Avery Tap Room. Space is limited. So don’t drink too much Uncle Jacob’s and forget to get your ticket.
HERE, TASTE THIS WEASEL
Some say Longmont is all about the tacos. Others say it’s all about the tasty weasels. Others, still, follow that last statement up with a “that’s what she said.”
Whichever sort you may be, you oughta know that the Oskar Blues Tasty Weasel taproom in Longmont is turning 5 this week, and will be throwing itself a par-tay.
On Saturday, Feb. 8, at 4 p.m., the Weaseliversary will kick off with live music and specialty tastings. Oskar Blues will also be showcasing its latest creation, G’Afternoon Hoppy Red Ale, which — as you probably figured out by now — is a hoppy red ale.
And a specially brewed one at that.
Music, ahem, “on tap,” includes singer/songwriter Kort McCumber at 4:30 p.m., and Strategic Beef Plan B: The Morning After at 6 p.m.
