On Oct. 4, Xcel
Energy filed its second disclosure report related to ballot issues 2B and 2C,
in compliance with Boulder County’s campaign finance requirements. Since its
last report, the company has invested $188,954 in what it calls an “educational
campaign,” and they say the investment will not affect customers’ rates.

In addition to the
expenses listed in the report, Xcel Energy also contributed $250,000 to the
Boulder Smart Energy Coalition. The organization consists of individuals and
businesses in the city that say municipalization is not in the best interests
of Boulder.

The Xcel expenses
for the campaign include $39,070 for advertising, $4,262 for campaign events,
$83,926 for consultants, $61,454 for employee expenses and $242 for printing.
